I just bought a Beatles Anthology DVD this morning and I watched it the whole day with Shine. It made me remember the trips I had to Bicol when I was a kid, and all i listened to was the “White Album”. My dad used to tell me ”The Beatles revolutionized music”, at that time I was a kid and I didnt know what it meant. As i grew older, i noticed that for ”old” music, it sounded “modern”. That means, they were pretty much ahead of their time. The album “Sgt Pepper…” and beyond had that weird and experimental tinge to it, and i loved it. It’s only lately that I’ve read that the Beatles was always experimental: they employed the use of samplers, tape-cutting, unusual mic-ing techniques and playing records in reverse (which would get their sound engineer in trouble most of the time). Sounds like the tools of a modern electronic artist huh?

theres a gig coming up on the 4th of May. im not really sure if i can play live (i dont have a laptop — yet), but we’ll see, there are a few helpful individuals out there who are willing to let me borrow theirs, so lets keep things tentative for now. if ever that pushes through, thats gonna be a big step in cocolulu’s history: its gonna be the first time im gonne be playing a live electronic set! yay!
in line with that show, im also gonna release a limited number of the “8 bit love” EP plus current cocolulu singles and a few songs from the eggboyvscocolulu collaboration. im currently mastering the songs that are gonna be included on that said cd. it has been hard and frustrating at times to master a track and i’ve been doing and redoing stuff just to get the sound that i want. anyway, prices for the cd are not available yet but im sure its gonna be dirt cheap. PKI is also going to release the cd “above the city limits, i cant help but look below” 3 way split with Arthaus*, Dead Chasing Daylight and yours truly on that same show. your support would be greatly appreciated.
thats it for now folks, i hope to get to see all of you soon.

It was a boring sunday night at the office as usual, and i popped in my ipod and tried to listen to recent stuff ive uploaded. There has been alot of raving going on with the band “Headlights”, so they were the first one i played. The song “Owl Eyes” sent shivers to my spine, and it was so touching that it almost brought me to tears! lol. Their sound is a mixture of indie pop with shoegaze references. Next up was “Red Sleeping Beauty”. Beautiful swede pop music that reminded me of The Acid House Kings. This made me realize that inspite of the current state of the music scene, there are still music out there that can still touch emotions and move the heart.

things are pretty busy these past few days at the cocolulu hq (my bedroom): mixing in new songs and laying in new ideas. the long holiday is just around the corner so that means time off from doing music, which is a good thing. it keeps my mind searching for new sources of inspiration. speaking of inspiration, i’d like to thank Sunshine, my girl, for making this website possible. all designs and photos by her. aint she talented?
on other news, watch out for the 3 way split by Puro ka Indie! collective with Arthaus*, Dead Chasing Daylight and of course, yours truly. 3 artists, 3 tracks, one hell of an emo session. do watch out for it folks!
Enjoy the long vacation folks!
